Wind problems – stationary to the rescue
We all know this scenery I’m sure,
Packed greenhouse, still more to sow, cold nights outside still.
So I decided to take a chance and plant out my peas, spring brassicas, spring onions and direct sow some roots veggies and pak choi under my plastic tunnel (either a mini poly tunnel or large cloche you choose). The plastic should help with the cold night issue, and keep my ducks off my young plants – bonus.
Well on Sunday I carefully planted my plants, watered them and then set out to put the tunnel on, just as the winds started to pick up! Well after battle for 10 mins I got it on stood back and watch the wind catch a gap and blow the whole thing off.
So a few swear words later and a cup of tea I start rummaging in my shed for clips and twine to tie it down, bricks are used as weights and its back on for a second time and I'm feeling good. Ah not so fast says Mother Nature and the westerly wind, plastic comes off, bricks an all.
The third time I go out armed with some foldback clips I have in my study and use them to hold the plastic firmer to the poles and clip ends on to my raised bed – and it worked.
Monday morning I get up to find tunnel in place, plants safe and clips still holding and even better no little holes in plastic, which you get from other clips, pins and pegs I have used before, so today I am ordering another box or two of them to use with my enviromesh.
Anyone else had great joy from stationery in the garden?
