Welcome to 2014
I hope everyone had a good break and is feeling refreshed for the new season like myself. I was lucky enough this year to be given a Crimson bonfire peach tree for my Solstice gift (http://www.thompson-morgan.com/fruit/fruit-trees/stone-fruit-trees/peach-crimson-bonfire/87129TM) so I am looking forward to watching this grow.
Here on the east Coast we have had some very wet weather (like most of the country i guess) so my ground is pure mud at the moment, so I have taken the time to sort the seed box and make a to do list to take me through to March, as one of my real weakness is doing want I enjoy i.e. sowing seeds and forgetting to do the least enjoyable jobs like tiding and cleaning.
I am going to be sowing and planting this year by following the lunar charts and keeping track of the results, i will keep you informed on how I do.
I have put a side quite a few seed packets for seed swapping this year, I have signed up to Seedy penpals and will be participating in that over the next two weeks, and I will be attending my local potato day event which also has a seed swap event. So hopefully I can swap some of my duplicates that I collect from magazines offers and just the occasion shopping trip. If anyone on hear has lots of duplicate sees that you are interested in swapping please get in touch, I have quite a few particular brassicas and herbs.

The great thing about being a gardener is that dirt in the home doesn't really bother one. There's more important things in life than housework!
ReplyDeleteAll the best with the Seedy Penpals. I did the last one but have opted out of this one because my little sister got us tickets to visit our Nanny Iris in South Africa so it'd be a close call with posting and corresponding... It was great fun, but the lady I had to send seeds to is completely against F1 hybrids and into saved seed rather than bought seed so I had a bit of a hard time finding something to send her - being a beginner and not bothering about such things. There's an ongoing correspondence between us - shared interests and all that. The girl who sent to me has the most whimsical blog, which I now follow; so it really is worthwhile being a Seedy Penpal - swopping spare seeds for something different and new and interesting and making new friends in the process.
Happy New Year!
